  NRI 1929 Home-Study Course

This is a great radio home study course.  With this CD you can use the same instructions early radio technicians used to learn radio theory.  See how radios were constructed in the days when wireless was still in its infancy.  Give yourself a solid background in radio starting from the ground up.  This CD contains scans of the lessons from the years 1929/1930. Cover of lesson # 8

Not only are there lessons about the workings of a radio, there are also lessons about applications of wireless technology in other fields such as television, aircraft, beacons, prospecting, etc.

Everything on the CD is listed here. Click on the link below to view the list.

(You must have Adobe's Acrobat Reader ver. 5 or higher installed on your computer to view the sample.)

This CD is not just about radio theory and servicing receivers, it covers that quite well, but it's also about our culture and attitudes toward this new exciting field.

Remember how exciting the Internet was when it first became available to you and people were speculating about all the fantastic changes it would bring to communication?  That's exactly what was happening with wireless when these radio courses were being sent out to homes allowing new opportunities to all those who subscribed to them.

The CD is an autorun CD meaning that you put it into your drive and a menu appears on your monitor.  Then, just choose a lesson from the menu and you're ready to go.  There are 50 lessons and each lesson is about 30 pages long.  They are in pdf format which means that Adobe Acrobat will display them.  Pdf format allows you to view two pages side-by-side, just like the originals.  You can also zoom in, out, print, and rotate the pages.

If you don't have Adobe Acrobat version 5 or later installed on your computer, you can download it for free from Adobe's website or it may be on your CD ready to install.

Scans of the lessons were done with great care to make the text as legible as possible.  You'll appreciate the clean, clear pages.
